Dr. Oz's Ultimate Girl's Guide to Health for Your Total Body Makeover

Dr. Oz is jumping into the hugely popular world of Pinterest to find out what women are recommending as their must-have products. He has asked two experts to compile your favorites into Dr. Oz's Ultimate Girl's Guide to Health and pin them to Pinterest.

Jene Lucianai, beauty and fashion expert [and author of The Bra Book], and Dr. Roshini Raj, MD, Gastroenterologist and author of What the Yuck?, join forces to find out what women are talking about on Pinterest.

Dr. Oz Overnight Skin Saver #1: AmorePacific Moisture Bound Vitalizing Masque
AmorePacific Moisture Bound Vitalizing Masque is a kit with both a moisturizer and a mask. Apply the vitamin rich lotion then cover the face with the mask provided for 30 minutes to allow the nutrients to absorb, explains Dr. Raj.

Ms. Lucianai likes First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Restore Cream and calls it a multi-purpose cream. First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Restore Cream is designed to moisture the skin and help to prevent the signs of aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Cost for First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Restore Cream: about $36.00.

Dr. Oz PMS Stress Busters on Pinterest

Now onto another common problem facing women – PMS and all the stress, imbalances, and discomforts that come with it beginning with puberty and then hits again as we age.

Dr. Oz PMS Stress Buster #1: Chaste Tree Berries
Dr. Raj recommends Agnus Casus, or chaste tree berries, 150mg daily when you experience PMS symptoms to help balance hormones. Studies have shown, she explains, that taking this supplement daily can support a decrease of irritability associated with PMS symptoms.

[Commonly known as chaste tree berries, latin name: vitex agnus castus, this supplement can be found in pill or liquid form under the names vitex or chaste tree berries or agnus casus.]

Dr. Oz PMS Stress Buster #2: Nutrition Now Fiber Gummies
Chew away your PMS stress with Nutrition Now Fiber Gummies. Fiber supports balanced blood sugar levels which contributes to mood and can help to bring regularity anytime and during PMS. Many women experience constipation or diarrhea during PMS and fiber can contribute to regulating the intestines.
Cost for Nutrition Now Fiber Gummies: about $12.00.

Dr. Oz PMS Stress Buster #3: Thermacare Menstrual Heat Wraps
Thermacare has designed a heat wrap for that time of month. Dr. Oz calls it brilliant. Did your mom tell you when you were younger to lay down with a heating pad when cramps come along? Many of us don't have time to stop our day and lay down [we'd probably be much better off thought. Give me a nap!] Thermacare Menstrual Heat Wraps can be applied where the cramps are getting you then go about your day, even sleep, to help reduce the discomfort without interrupting your day.
Cost for Thermacare Menstrual Heat Wraps: about $7.00. [Click the link to get a coupon from the company.]

Dr. Oz 5-Minute Body Make-Overs

Get thin in only 5-minutes – well, look thinner in 5-minutes, with these tips posted to Dr. Oz's Pinterest page.

Dr. Oz 5-Minute Make-Over: Color Block Dress
It's all the rage on the runways and the red carpet – color block dresses. Become two sizes smaller, visually, with a dress featuring dark color paneling on the side and a lighter color panel in the center. This color combination gives the illusion of slimmer hips and thighs by drawing the eye inward and visually slimming the figure.

It's a secret thigh slimmer, says Dr. Raj. Greensations Orange Peptide Cellulite Butter is not a fix for cellulite, because there is no such thing, but it will help to reduce the appearance of cellulite with caffeine that will draw out water from and tighten the area applied. Antioxidants in the butter cleanses and tones the skin.

Dr. Oz 5-Minute Make-Over: Josie Maran 100%Argan Oil
This tip is one of Dr. Oz's favorite products, argan oil. From Moroco, argan oil comes from the argan tree and has been used for hundreds of years to support brittle nails, dry skin and dry hair. Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil can be used all over the body to moisturize. Dr. Oz says to be sure to look for argan products that are 100% oil.
Cost for Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil: about $48.00.

Dr. Oz Top Diet Mistakes

There are as many diet mistakes made as there are diets out there. Many women, including Dr. Oz's audience assistant, go from diet to diet trying to find something that works. If they don't get results, they stop in as short as 2 weeks – it's called Two-Weeking.

Dr. Oz Diet Mistake #1: Thinking Gluten-Free is Healthier
Dr. Oz says the marketing trend in gluten-free products drive him batty. When something is taken out of the gluten-containing food something has to be added and often that is more calories, sugar and fat. Some gluten-free foods have more calories than their gluten-filled counter parts.

If you're going to eat foods labeled gluten-free, Dr. Oz said, you better have a gluten problem. He recommends to eat foods that contain whole grains and there are many available that are naturally gluten-free like amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa, and teff. Stay away from the highly processed foods labeled gluten-free.

[While I agree that there are many over-processed, calorie-laden gluten-free foods, there are also many that are labeled gluten-free that also have whole grains. Many people who choose gluten-free products think they are getting a healthier cookie because of the label however, a gluten-free cookie is also going to be high in sugar and carbohydrates and contain bleached grains. Tinkyada brand offers pasta with brown rice that is also gluten-free.]

Dr. Oz Diet Mistake #2: Over-Fruit
If fruit is good then more fruit is better, right? That's an idea getting many dieters in trouble. Some fruit are low on the glycemic index while others are quite high. Foods that raise blood sugar levels are pineapples, melons, and dried fruit so keep serving sizes small and have them as an occasional treat.

Dr. Oz Diet Mistake #3: Over-Relying on Protein Bars
Protein in protein bars has been over processed then lost of sugar and fat is added. If you want protein, Dr. Oz recommends eating protein. Beanitos chips are a different take on tortilla chips. Beanitos is based on black beans instead of corn and they are low in low in calories and low in sugar with fiber and protein.

Dr. Oz Diet Mistake #4: Making Juice Your Go-To Drink
Many people are moving away from soda but replacing it with high sugar fruit juices. If you're working to lose weight, Dr. Oz recommends drinking only 8 ounces of fruit juice a day. Another option is Herbal Tisane tea. Black and green teas are made from the leaves while Tisane is made from other parts of the plant. Brew a pitcher of Tisane, add lemon and/or lime and enjoy the caffeine-free fruity flavor.

Dr. Oz Fast Fixes for Embarrassing Problems

Dr. Oz Fast Fix for Female Facial Hair
This is a commonly asked question, says Dr. Oz. Female facial hair can begin as peach fuzz then quickly turn into a female mustache or even a beard. As women age, we produce less estrogen and more testosterone which encourages more hair growth during menopause. Genetics also plays a role in how much facial hair a woman may have. Dr. Oz has two great ideas to help reduce female facial hair.

Dr. Oz Fast Fix for Facial Hair #1: Sugar-Based Hair Removal
A sugar based hair removal product can be used at-home and, says Dr. Oz, is not as irritating as wax-based removers. The product he showed was more like a thick honey then a wax but it's applied just like wax and pulled off with cloth.
Cost is about $30.00.

Dr. Oz Fast Fix for Facial Hair #2: Facial Hair Removal Cream
In a two step process, facial hair removal cream is applied to the area and allowed to sit and weaken the hair then simply scrap off the hair. Use every few weeks as needed.

Dr. Oz Fast Fix for Night Sweating
A member of the audience shared that soon after falling asleep she wakes up and her head is hot and covered in sweat. Dr. Oz explained that when you lie down more blood goes to the head creating more heat and lots of sweat. It's a fairly common problem. Dr. Oz recommends using an antiperspirant around the hair line to prevent sweating.

[Antiperspirants contain aluminum which has been associated with health concerns and increased risks of disease. Putting an antiperspirant on the scalp doesn't appeal to me, in fact, makes me extremely nervous. Looking into ways to naturally support the balancing of hormones may be a safer solution.]

Dr. Oz also recommended using a rejuvenator fan at your bedside which features a timer and delayed start to keep you cool after you go to sleep.

Dr. Oz Fast Fix for Bloating and Gas
To help ease the discomfort of bloating and gas and support digestion, Dr. Oz recommended drinking ginger tea. He also recommended Beano, in either liquid or capsule form, to support the breakdown of starches.

When eating a meal such as a chicken sandwich and apple for lunch, most folks start with the sandwich then end with the apple. Hundreds of years of ayurvedic medicine recommends eating the apple first then the protein. Upon entering the digestive tract, proteins slow the entire process down which is good to help you feel full but when you an after after that protein the it gets caught up in the slowed traffic causing gas and bloating. Switch the order and have the sugar first and then protein.

Dr. Oz Secret Weapons to Fight Fat and Fatigue

Our metabolism changes as we age but that doesn't mean we have to live with it. Dr. Oz has two tips to fight fat and two tips to fight fatigue and all the tips come from food.

Dr. Oz Secret to Fight Fat: Riboflavin
Riboflavin, or Vitamin B-2, helps other vitamins to do their job. Dr. Oz recommends getting your B-2 from three 8 ounce glasses of 2% milk daily. He says to buy milk in an opaque container as milk in a clear bottle exposed to two hours of light can destroy the natural Vitamin D.

Dr. Oz Secret to Fight Fat: Calcium
Calcium can help to rid the body of fat by binding with excess fat and drawing it out of the body. Dr. Oz recommends turnip green, 1 cup daily, to prevent the absorption of fat.

Dr. Oz Secret to Fight Fatigue: Iron
Iron is the most common vitamin deficiency in America. Meat is one source of iron but 1 cup of lentils has twice as much iron as a steak. Iron carries oxygen through the body to produce energy. Add Vitamin C with your turnips, in the form of a drink or a food, to help aid in iron absorption.

Dr. Oz Secret to Fight Fatigue: Corn
An energy drink will give you a high and an even stronger low. Dr. Oz recommends corn to provide long lasting energy from magnesium which also supports vital metabolic processes. He recommends 1-1/2 cups of sweet corn daily to boost energy so you'll feel less tired.

Dr. Oz Girl's Night Out Anti-Aging Cocktails

The best medicine for women is cocktails and a night out with the girls. But those libations pack a whole lot of calories. Dr. Mixologist Darryl Robinson, host of the Cooking Channel show Drink Up, and Julieanna Hever, RD, The Plant-Based Dietitian and author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition, combine to turbo charge your diet while enjoying cocktails.

Dr. Oz challenged Dr. Robinson and Ms. Hever to mix up the perfect anti-aging cocktails that are low in calories. The kept it fresh with antioxidant powerhouse berries and Mr. Robinson used healthier sweetener options by focusing on agave, maple syrup, and honey.

Ms. Hever wanted to make sure the drinks were high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to give the necessary nutrients to support collage production and to remove harmful free-radicals that make the skin age too fast.

Their three drinks met all the nutritional criteria Dr. Oz set while satisfying the taste-testers with sweet and complex flavors.

The wine and blackberries in this cocktail are rich in antioxidants, while the vitamin C in the fruit helps to fight wrinkles.

1 bottle Pinot Noir
4 oz Reposado Tequila (agave plant base)
4 oz peach nectar
2 cups orange/pineapple juice
2-3 plums
1 whole pineapple
2.6 oz cartons black berries
2-3 oranges
Fill large pitcher with ice and fruit. Pour in bottle of wine. Add tequila and peach purée. Add orange/pineapple juice. Garnish with orange slice and serve.

The ginger in this drink helps to protect the brain from damage and relieves stress. The key to mixing up this drink is the smack the mint and muddle, or mash, the fruit to release the flavors.

1.5 oz rum
8-10 mint leaves
2 slices mango
2 slices ginger
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 splash club soda
1 natural sweetener packet
In Collins glass, muddle the ginger and mango. Add mint leaves without muddling. Add rum, ice and sweetener packet. Pour into to shaker and shake. Pour into glass and top with club soda.

Green tea contains ECGC, an antioxidant that supports both health and beauty by stimulating circulation to give the skin that attractive glow. Dr. Oz says green tea is also great for weight loss. The Green-Tini also features liquid chlorophyll to not only color up the drink but helps to oxygenate the blood and provide energy.

2 oz vodka
2 oz green tea
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
2 drops chlorophyll extract
1 splash agave nectar
Pomegranate seeds

In a shaker, combine ice, vodka, brewed green tea, lemon juice, chlorophyll extract and agave nectar. Shake and serve in martini glasses with pomegranate seeds at the bottom for garnish.

Dr. Oz Bonus Tips! Simple Foods for Common Complaints

Dr. Oz Simple Foods Tip #1: Sesame Seeds
Sesame seeds are rich in magnesium and a support the production of serotonin in the brain, one of the feel-good hormones. Sesame seeds are also high in Vitamin E and are recommended to reduce the risks of migraine headaches.

Dr. Oz Simple Foods Tip #2: Water Chestnuts
Eating water chestnuts can help to increase saliva production. Saliva is alkalizing and can play a role in reducing heartburn.

Dr. Oz Simple Foods Tip #3: Blueberry Tea
Dr. Oz recommends blueberry leaf tea to combat diarrhea. Blueberry leaf tea removes mucus from the intestines which can lead to diarrhea. He cautions if diarrhea has already set in then blueberry tea will make it worse.

  1. Dr. Oz talked about a drinking more water. He said to add grapefruit, tangerine, mint and two other fruits? Please advise if you know what they are?

  2. 1/2 sliced cucumbers to help you stay full. I wrote this down and didn't list 2 other fruits. If you're talking about the episode with Kim Lyons...10 day fat loss...drink 3 8oz glasses before meals so you won't eat as much.
